Why we photograph newborns in the hospital, not a studio
Most newborn photography happens at five to fourteen days old in a studio. We do something different, and here is why.
The first 48 hours look like nothing else
A two-day-old baby is still folded the way they were inside you. Their skin is peeling, their eyes are puffy, their hair may be a color it will never be again. There is a plastic bracelet on an ankle the size of your thumb. Within a week most of this is gone. A studio session at ten days captures a beautiful baby — but a different baby.
Nothing to book, nothing to bring
New parents have enough on their plate. In-hospital newborn photography removes every barrier: we are already on the maternity floor, we knock, and if it is a good moment we spend fifteen quiet minutes with you. Your room's window light and white blankets are all we need.
Why we wrote a no-pressure pledge
Hospital baby photography has a reputation problem: exhausted parents being sold packages at the bedside, prices that only exist out loud, orders that never arrive. We built First Light as the answer to that. Our prices are printed on a card in your room and published on our website. Nobody asks you to decide at the hospital. There are no follow-up sales calls. That pledge is written into our hospital agreements so the nurses who let us onto their unit can hold us to it.
